Munich Airport is investing in expanding gate capacity in Terminal 1 by building a new finger that extends 360 meters into the west apron.

The cost of the project has now risen to 665 million euros and commissioning is targeted for the end of 2025. The aim of the expansion is to increase the attractiveness of the hub for passengers from various airlines, as Terminal 2 is mainly used by Lufthansa and Star Alliance.

The new finger will have six floors, with three levels dedicated to passenger processing. Construction, which has been ongoing since 2019 and delayed by the pandemic, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The new building will make it possible to position up to twelve smaller or six large aircraft at the gates at the same time. It is not possible for airlines to reserve gates; Resource planning is carried out in consultation with the airlines.
